Title: Ocean Panorama
The purpose of this project was to create a dress that symbolized the expanse and rhythms of the ocean. Especially, inspirational was the cadence of waves. The asymmetrical and flowing shape symbolizes the constantly changing dynamics in an ocean environment. Overall blue tones with gradation dyeing effects express the variation in ocean color. The pointed tuck lines express the rhythmic surge with peaks and valleys of waves. The silver color by interlocking on the tucks¡¯edges emphasizes shimmering waves in the sun. The gap and height, and the gradual widening of the rhythmical lines signify the ebb and flow upon the seashore. The overall effect was created by a draping technique with bias grain. Using sheer fabric of 100% silk chiffon, a layering technique of a top, skirt, and cape creates the constant motion of the waves. This paper was supported by Research Funds of Mokpo National University in 2009.
